The tourism, heritage, culture and popular traditions department of the town hall in Consuegra is set to host the 27th gastronomic competition on 24 October 2026, coinciding with the 64th edition of the rose of saffron festival, recognised as a regional tourist interest event.
Event details
The competition will take place at 11:00 hours at Paseo José Ortega y Munilla, located in front of the local football field. Participants can enter individually or as part of a group, such as friends or associations.
Registration information
Interested individuals must submit their participation request at the general offices of the Consuegra town hall, specifically at booth number 1, during public hours (09:00 to 14:00) until 23 October 2026. The application should include personal details and the name of the dish they intend to present.
Competition dishes
Contestants may prepare one of the following traditional dishes:
- Asadillo
- Pisto manchego
- Caldereta de cordero
- Pote campero
- Gachas rin ran
- Migas
- Sopas cabreras
Each participant or group is allowed to enter only one dish.
Competition schedule
The accreditation period begins at 11:00 hours, by which time all cooking equipment must be in place. Late arrivals will have until 12:00 hours to register; after this time, they will be disqualified. Cooking will take place from 11:00 to 13:00 hours, followed by a tasting session for the jury from 13:00 to 14:00 hours. Participants must inform the jury when their dish is ready for tasting. Results will be announced at 15:00 hours.
Participant requirements
Participants must provide all necessary materials for their dish, including firewood, and will have a designated area to recreate a typical scene from La Mancha, the region known for its saffron production. Contestants must present the dish they registered with.
Judging panel
The jury will consist of members from the municipal corporation, town hall staff, and representatives from local associations, such as Nuevos Caminos. Judging will be based on fairness, objectivity, and equality among all participants.
Awards
After deliberation, the following prizes will be awarded:
- 1st place: €200 sponsored by Restaurante El Alfar
- 2nd place: €150 sponsored by Restaurante Terraza “Triki”
- 3rd place: €100 sponsored by Dipe Mora S.L. Distribution of fuels and lubricants
- 4th place: €75 sponsored by Hotel Rural “La Vida de Antes”
- 5th place: €50 sponsored by Apartamentos Turísticos “Oncemolinos”
- Special prize for “best recreation of a typical scene from La Mancha”: €100 sponsored by Oxígeno2 Consuegra ESPJ Fitnesspace
Each participant may only win one prize, either for the dish or for the recreation of the scene.
Acceptance of rules
By participating, contestants agree to the competition rules. The organisation’s decisions regarding any matters not covered by these rules are final.
