last chance for young people born in 2008 to apply for cultural bonus

The deadline for individuals born in 2008 to apply for the cultural bonus, a programme initiated by the Ministry of Culture, is set to close on 31 October. In this fifth edition, a total of 337,157 applications have been received, with 52,596 coming from the Community of Madrid.

The cultural bonus offers those who are turning 18 in 2026 a financial assistance of €400, which can be used to purchase cultural products, musical instruments, artistic materials, or enrol in cultural courses. To apply, candidates must register and complete the application process on the official website.

Once the assistance is granted, recipients have one year to utilise the €400 on cultural products or services at participating establishments, of which there are 4,159 across Spain.

How to apply for the cultural bonus

To apply for the cultural bonus, applicants must first obtain one of three forms of digital identification: Cl@ve with basic registration (which can be requested via video call), Cl@ve with advanced registration (in person for those under 18), or a digital certificate. Interested young people can apply on their own behalf or through an adult representative, in which case a downloadable representation form must be submitted, duly signed by the beneficiary. It is important to note that a family book is not considered a valid document for representation.

About the cultural bonus

The cultural bonus operates via a prepaid card, which beneficiaries can access virtually on their mobile devices or receive physically at their homes. The 2026 cultural bonus allows recipients to choose between two options:

  • Option 1: Distributing the €400 across various areas, including live arts and audiovisuals, cultural heritage, and artistic creation materials (up to €200). This includes tickets and subscriptions for performing arts, live music, cinema, museums, historical heritage sites, libraries, exhibitions, and cultural courses.
  • Option 2: Allocating the entire amount to a single category, such as cultural courses and workshops (both in-person and online), musical instruments, or artistic creation materials.

The cultural bonus is regulated by a Royal Decree approved by the Council of Ministers on 21 March 2023, following a proposal from the Minister of Culture. It has a budget of €170 million in the extended General State Budgets. In its inaugural year, 2022, a total of 277,607 individuals across Spain received the cultural bonus, with the numbers increasing to 323,668 in 2023, 334,435 in 2024, and 363,054 in 2025. Over the four years since its inception, the total number of beneficiaries has reached 1,298,764 young people.
