Xunta de Galicia reaffirms commitment to port modernisation at international bulk terminals congress

Natalia Botana, president of Ports of Galicia, participated in the inauguration of the international congress of the Association of Bulk Terminal Operators, held this year in A Coruña. During her speech at Bulk Terminals A Coruña 2026, which gathers major port operators and international experts in bulk cargo, Botana reaffirmed the Xunta's commitment to port modernisation and highlighted the region as a stable environment for industrial investment.

In her opening remarks, attended by Martín Fernández, president of the Port Authority of A Coruña, and representatives from the local council, Botana underscored Galicia's strategic importance, noting that it accounts for approximately 30% of bulk traffic in northern Spain. She outlined the main areas for public-private collaboration aimed at stimulating economic activity in this sector, which include advancing innovation and cybersecurity, energy transition, and regulatory stability.

Botana remarked that in an international context characterised by supply chain disruptions and complex geopolitical changes, "uncertainty is the climate and Galicia is the port," referencing the congress's theme of "Facing continuous uncertainties." She invited the international maritime sector to discover a Galicia that promotes "smart ports, green growth, and a stable partner." She concluded by stating that "in times of uncertainty, the leading regions are those that offer legal security, climate resilience, and first-rate infrastructures."

The Bulk Terminals A Coruña 2026 represents the most significant international summit in the sector. Over two days, discussions will focus on strategic challenges in maritime transport, including digitalisation, decarbonisation, security, and the resilience of supply chains.
