The international half-distance triathlon, Challenge Peguera Mallorca, is set to take place on Saturday, 17 October at 9 am, attracting more than 1,200 athletes and reinforcing Calvià's status as a hub for sports tourism and seasonal diversification.
This significant international event, organised by the Calvià 365 Foundation and the Ajuntament de Calvià, will not only feature elite triathletes from around the world but also a wide array of cultural, musical, sporting, and gastronomic activities.
Calvià's mayor, Juan Antonio Amengual, will participate in the race alongside Javier Tascón, the deputy mayor for sports, and Llorenç Galmés, the president of the Consell de Mallorca. Amengual stated, “This is our flagship sporting event. Moreover, this year it has a strong social commitment.” Galmés acknowledged that the Challenge “puts Calvià and Mallorca on the international map after twelve editions.”
In the women's category, the leading contender is German athlete Caroline Pohle, currently ranked 17th in the world by the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO). The men's competition will be led by British triathlete Will Draper, who holds the 28th position in the PTO rankings. Local talents such as Carlos Oliver and Jaume Florit will also represent the region.
A key aspect of the Challenge Peguera Mallorca's success is its ability to transform the event into a sports and cultural festival. This year, the event will introduce CHALLENGE4ALL, a 2 km race organised in collaboration with the Esment Foundation, aimed at demonstrating that everyone has a place in sport.
The event is the result of collaboration between the Calvià 365 Foundation, the Ajuntament de Calvià, the Spanish Triathlon Federation (FETRI), and the Balearic Triathlon Federation, with support from the Balearic Islands Tourism Strategy Agency (AETIB). The race will be broadcast live, allowing fans worldwide to follow the professional competition.
On 17 October, there will be traffic disruptions and temporary parking restrictions in various areas of Calvià.
