The ibiza town hall and the pitiús athletics club are set to host the second edition of the es baluards race on 7 November. This popular event encourages participants of all ages to discover and enjoy the city's historical heritage through a unique combination of sport, culture, and solidarity.
Although this is the third year the event has been organised, the race was cancelled last year due to adverse weather conditions, making this the true second edition. The main race will cover a distance of approximately 5.5 kilometres, starting at 16:30 from the promenade of Vara de Rey, where the finish line will also be located.
Participants will complete two laps of a circuit that passes through some of the most iconic streets and spaces of Dalt Vila, including the Portal Nou, the bastions of Sant Jaume, Sant Jordi, Sant Bernat, and Santa Llúcia, as well as the Cathedral Square and various streets within the historical site. This distinctive route allows runners to experience the city's UNESCO-recognised heritage while promoting physical activity and community involvement.
The race is open to runners born in 2010 or earlier, both federated and non-federated, and will feature different male and female categories. Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in the overall standings and in each category.
A family-friendly event
The second edition of the es baluards race will also include a mini race aimed at encouraging physical activity among younger participants and facilitating family involvement in the sporting event. The children's races will commence at 16:00, featuring a distance of approximately 600 metres for the sub-10, sub-12, and special categories. At 16:15, the sub-14 and sub-16 categories will compete in a race of around 1,200 metres on an urban circuit starting and finishing at Vara de Rey. The mini race is completely free and will include a special category for athletes from ADDIF, reinforcing the inclusive nature of this sporting event.
A race with a charitable purpose
In addition to promoting sport and highlighting the city's heritage, the es baluards race has a significant charitable component. Proceeds from the main race registrations will be donated to AEMIF, supporting the social work of this association. Registrations for both the main race and the mini race must be completed through the Elitechip platform by 21:00 on 5 November. Participation in the mini race is free, and all participants will be covered by a one-day insurance policy.
Race numbers and chips will be distributed exclusively at the municipal sports patronage facilities at the Can Misses municipal pool on 6 November from 18:00 to 20:00 and on 7 November from 10:00 to 12:00.
With this third edition, ibiza continues to promote a sporting event that combines healthy habits, family participation, solidarity, and the appreciation of the city's historical spaces, offering an opportunity to enjoy Dalt Vila from a different perspective. The event's branding has been completely refreshed, and the final design of the official race t-shirt, of which only 500 units will be made, will be revealed in the coming days.
