The A Rivas el telón theatre group is set to perform Tennessee Williams' acclaimed play 'A Streetcar Named Desire' at the Pilar Bardem auditorium. This event is part of the 13th Local Performing Arts Showcase, organised by the Rivas-Vaciamadrid Department of Culture and Festivals, which provides a platform for non-professional local companies to perform annually on a municipal stage, showcasing and promoting local talent.

Directed by Antonio José López Gómez, 'A Streetcar Named Desire' is a drama set in the years following World War II, during a time when rapid industrial growth was reshaping society, particularly affecting the class of wealthy landowners in the southern United States. The play follows the character of Blanche, a proud yet decaying woman from an old Southern family, who moves in with her sister Stella in a working-class neighbourhood of New Orleans. Stella is married to Stanley, a rough and violent man, leading to a tense confrontation between the two as Stanley uncovers Blanche's dark and hidden past.

A Rivas el telón was established in 2013 and has previously staged notable works including Molière's 'The Doctor in Spite of Himself', 'Lío en Messina' by Antonio José López Gómez, Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', and 'Love in the Time of Lorca' by Ana Lecina, the latter winning Best Show at the 2025 Juan Mayorga Performing Arts Awards.

'A Streetcar Named Desire' was famously adapted into a film by Elia Kazan in 1951, featuring performances by Marlon Brando, Vivien Leigh, and Kim Hunter.
