The City Council of Alicante has presented cheques of €1,665 to three social organisations during a ceremony held at the Salón Azul. The recipients include Alinur, a special education centre for individuals with intellectual disabilities; Apsa, an association supporting people with intellectual disabilities; and Apamm, the Provincial Association of Alicante for Women with Breast Cancer.
The funds were raised through solidarity bars during the New Year's Eve and Carnival celebrations in 2026, totalling €4,995 collected from bars located on Rambla de Méndez Núñez. This initiative was supported by the Association of Hospitality and Leisure Venues of Alicante (Alroa), led by Javier Galdeano, and the Soho-Baviera Group.
This year marks the twelfth edition of the Solidarity Bars initiative. Cristina Cutanda, the Councillor for Festivals, praised the “invaluable and tireless” work of the three beneficiary associations, as well as the “altruism and solidarity” shown by Alroa and the Soho-Baviera Group. Lidia López, the Councillor for Commerce and Hospitality, emphasised the importance of initiatives like this to assist those in need.
Clara Burgos, vice-president of Apamm, noted that the presentation coincided with World Breast Cancer Day, highlighting the significance of the funds for the association and the need to increase its membership, which currently stands at 600. A collaboration between the Commerce Department and Apamm will be showcased at Botigues al Carrer on Saturday, 24 October, where an information table will be set up.
Leonor Martínez, president of Alinur, expressed her honour in being involved with the initiative, stating that the funds will be used to organise the Alinur Musical, an event that deeply engages the users and holds special meaning for them. Nito Manero, president of Apsa, remarked that established initiatives like this provide essential additional support, particularly for the development of younger users.
Javier Galdeano acknowledged that adverse weather conditions had affected the expected fundraising outcomes but affirmed the commitment to continue this project and explore new avenues to assist various charitable associations.
