Exhibition 'Reflections: the art of visual deception' at the congress centre until 20 November

The congress centre in Barbastro is showcasing the exhibition 'Reflections: the art of visual deception' from 27 October until 20 November in the exhibition hall. This initiative encourages visitors to discover how perception can mislead us and to delve into the relationship between art, science, and imagination.

Curated by the Navarrese illusionist Pedro III, the exhibition features over 200 photographs and various interactive modules that allow the audience to engage with optical illusions and understand how the senses can interpret reality in unexpected ways. Highlights of the exhibition include:

  • A room designed to appear upside down, challenging the perception of gravity.
  • A shadow puppetry space for creating figures with hands.
  • A tunnel that seems to extend into infinity.
  • Visual games demonstrating how light alters the colours of shadows.

Pilar Abad, the councillor for culture, emphasised the importance of providing a diverse cultural programme that brings various artistic expressions closer to the community. She stated, "The autumn cultural programme features proposals from different disciplines aimed at diverse audiences, with the goal of facilitating access to culture and offering cultural and leisure alternatives throughout these weeks."

This exhibition is part of a broader autumn cultural programme that will include notable events in literature, theatre, cinema, music, and dance throughout November. Upcoming highlights include the presentation of the Barbastro Literary Contest 2026 awards and the unveiling of the winning books on 6 November at the congress centre. Family theatre will be featured on 7 November with 'The Legend of Sally Jones' by Baychimo Teatro, part of the Menudo Teatro cycle. Additionally, on 31 October, the congress centre will host 'Savia', a performance combining dance and music featuring Pilar Almalé and Miguel Ángel Berna.

The film programme will include the cycle '1946: a year in black', dedicated to classic film noir, with screenings at the Cine Cortés and presentations by specialists. The independent film series 'The Look of Harry' will continue, showcasing titles such as 'Living the Land' and 'The Life of a Woman'. Dance enthusiasts can look forward to 'The Nutcracker', performed by the International Ballet Company on 13 November, while family theatre will present 'Snow White the Musical' on 14 November.

Music will take centre stage on 21 November with the Santa Cecilia Concert by the Barbastro City Music Band, followed by the group B Vocal presenting 'Singing at 30' on 27 November. The programme will also feature other theatrical offerings, including 'We Are Not Premiering Today' by L'Om Imprebís and 'Journey to Mecca' starring Lola Herrera, alongside activities related to illustration and literature, such as the exhibition 'The Illustrated Company: Mysteries of the Book'.
