The insular auditorium of la gomera is set to host the screening of the documentary ‘arrecifes de lava’ on 23 October at 18:00. Directed by underwater filmmaker Rafa Herrero Massieu, the event aims to unveil some of the lesser-known ecosystems of the canary islands through exclusive footage of their marine environments.
Diego Chinea, the insular coordinator of the biosphere reserve of la gomera, emphasised that “this screening represents an opportunity to engage with the extraordinary biodiversity found in the marine depths of the canary islands and to promote awareness of the importance of conserving our natural heritage.”
The session will begin with an introductory talk lasting between 20 and 30 minutes, discussing the scientific significance of lava reefs and the technical challenges involved in exploring and filming these environments at great depths. Following this, the 53-minute documentary will be screened, showcasing unprecedented images of species, ecosystems, and geological formations of significant natural value.
‘Arrecifes de lava’ offers a visual journey from the coastal platform to the depths of the archipelago, revealing areas that have remained largely unknown to humans due to their extreme conditions and accessibility challenges.
