Alicante promotes local commerce with the 18th edition of ‘Botigues al Carrer’

The councillor for Commerce in Alicante, Lidia López, attended the commercial dynamisation event ‘Botigues al Carrer’ on Saturday, held on the iconic San Francisco Street. The initiative aims to activate, promote, and support local commerce in the city centre, and it attracted hundreds of participants.

More than 70 shops showcased their products in a lively atmosphere that included children's workshops, two concerts, special offers, a craft area, food tastings, performances, and a photo booth. Councillor López expressed her positive assessment of the event, stating, “This pedestrianised area of Alicante has a very active commerce scene that serves as an example for the city. Botigues highlights this because it is always a success, it is well established, and receives an excellent response from the public. The City Council organises it to bring attention to and energise local businesses every year.”

This year marks the 18th anniversary of the event, which combines leisure and shopping in an open-air market format. San Francisco Street, popularly known as 'the street of the mushrooms', was one of the first areas in Alicante to initiate outdoor commerce dynamisation, providing locals and visitors the opportunity to connect with merchants and foster new customer relationships.

The initiative is organised by the City Council's Department of Commerce and Consumption in collaboration with the association ‘Más Que Centro’.
