The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, through the Ofra-Costa Sur district and in collaboration with the Oya Team Club, is set to host the 15th Ofra-Costa Sur Oya Team boxing gala on Saturday, 24 October. The event will take place at the Pancho Camurria pavilion, bringing together athletes, fans, and families to celebrate the sport of boxing.

The gala will commence at 18:30, with doors opening at 18:00. It will feature boxers from Oya Team as well as competitors from other clubs on the island, including a derby match against the Gran Canaria Boxing School. The competition will be overseen by the Canary and Tenerife Boxing Federations, offering an afternoon of sport that recognises the hard work of those who train year-round to compete in the ring.

José Manuel Bermúdez, the mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, emphasised the significance of supporting sporting initiatives like this one, stating that they “contribute to promoting healthy lifestyle habits, foster values such as effort, discipline, and respect, and bring sport closer to all audiences.” He also highlighted that events like the Ofra-Costa Sur Oya Team boxing gala showcase the work of sports clubs and their coaches, particularly in developing young talent, while reinforcing the role of sport as a tool for social cohesion.

Santiago Díaz Mejías, the councillor for the Ofra-Costa Sur district, noted that “this gala is much more than a competition. It is an opportunity to bring our neighbours together, support local athletes, and highlight the excellent work done by the Oya Team. We want sport to continue being a means to create opportunities, promote healthy habits, and strengthen community ties.”

Alicia Cebrián, the sports councillor, added, “Behind every boxer are countless hours of training, discipline, and perseverance. We want to particularly acknowledge the dedication of Yeray Silvera and the entire Oya Team, who have made boxing a school of values and a supportive space for many young people.”

The Oya Team Club, part of the Nizana Sports Association, has become a prominent figure in boxing in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. With nearly 300 athletes, it is recognised for both its sporting achievements and its social engagement. Through initiatives such as Ofra Educa and Ofra Huele a Boxeo, the club promotes healthy habits, prevents risky behaviours, and includes individuals in vulnerable situations. This commitment is reflected in the accomplishments of its athletes, including Iru López, a multiple-time Canary champion and Spanish runner-up, and the young Yerobe Silvera, who was the Canary sub-champion in 2025 and is currently the Tenerife sub-champion.
