The mayor of Toledo, Carlos Velázquez, celebrated the success of the XIX Carrera Popular Nocturna de Toledo, which took place on Saturday and attracted 6,700 participants across two distances of 8.5 and 5 kilometres. Velázquez described the event as "the most beautiful race in the world."

Before the race commenced, the mayor highlighted the vibrant atmosphere in the city and noted that the Nocturna has established itself as the most popular race in Castilla-La Mancha in terms of participation. He emphasised that the event embodies a unique experience, combining heritage, culture, sport, tourism, and solidarity.

“It is a very special race that passes through truly unique heritage sites in the city of Toledo,” Velázquez stated, underscoring the opportunity to enjoy Toledo's cultural landmarks while promoting sport, physical activity, and healthy living.

Velázquez also pointed out the race's ability to attract participants from other autonomous communities and countries, enhancing Toledo's reputation as a destination linked to sport and culture. He noted that the event positively impacts local hotels, restaurants, and shops, as many participants stay overnight, dine out, and shop in the city.

Additionally, the mayor highlighted the new finish line near the Alcázar, in front of the Angel sculpture, describing it as "spectacular." This location provides a larger space to accommodate participants from both distances and adds another iconic setting to the race, which includes memorable moments such as passing through the bullring.

Above all, Velázquez emphasised the race's commitment to supporting those in need. The XIX Nocturna de Toledo allocates part of its proceeds to the Niemann-Pick Foundation, the Spanish Association Against Cancer, and the Pura Lección de Vida Marathon Association, contributing to the fight against rare diseases and cancer, as well as supporting inclusion initiatives.

“The most important aspect is that it is a charitable race, aimed at raising funds for people who are struggling,” the mayor affirmed. He encouraged everyone to participate in this event that blends sporting activity with social commitment and offers the chance to explore the heritage of "the most beautiful city in the world."
