The local government of Rivas is set to begin renovations on six tennis courts and one multifunctional court at the Parque del Sureste sports complex on 26 October. The improvements aim to enhance the usability and safety of the facilities, thereby extending their lifespan.
The renovations will address cracks in the asphalt base of the tennis courts and renew the resin sports flooring. Additionally, court markings will be refreshed, fencing elements replaced, and drainage channels and grates repaired.
For the multifunctional court, two pickleball courts will be established. Pickleball, a rapidly growing sport, combines elements of tennis, paddle, badminton, and table tennis. The setup will include marking the playing surfaces and installing new posts and nets, along with drainage repairs.
The renovation project is expected to take nine weeks. The tennis court renovations will be carried out in two consecutive phases, ensuring that while three courts are being repaired, the other three remain open for use. This approach will allow for the continuation of sports schools and municipal tennis rankings, although there will be a temporary reduction in the number of available courts and rental time slots for the public. The tennis courts at the Cerro del Telégrafo sports complex will remain fully operational during this period.
The project represents an investment of €78,344.46, funded primarily through the Regional Investment Plan (PIR) 2022-2026 of the Community of Madrid, which covers 95% of the costs, with the local government contributing the remaining 5%.
On the same day, 26 October, work will also begin on detecting and repairing water leaks in various municipal facilities, with an investment of €48,958.75, also linked to the PIR 2022-2026. This initiative aims to reduce water loss and improve the conservation and functionality of several municipal sports facilities, including one of the seven-a-side football fields at the Santa Ana sports complex, the eleven-a-side football field at El Vivero, and the Cerro del Telégrafo sports complex.
The work will involve identifying leak points, accessing necessary areas for repairs, and replacing damaged pipes and other elements of the irrigation and sanitation networks, followed by the restoration of affected pavements and facilities. Activities and competitions at the impacted facilities will be relocated to other municipal sports venues.
