Alcaraz Renacentista festival boosts local economy, says Ruiz Santos

Pedro Antonio Ruiz Santos, the government delegate of Castilla-La Mancha, has underscored the importance of the 'Alcaraz Renacentista' festival, which took centre stage at the regional government's stand during the Albacete Fair. This year's edition, taking place this weekend, aims to invigorate the local economy while connecting historical narratives with contemporary culture.

During a visit to the festival, Ruiz Santos explored various stands located in the Plaza Mayor of Alcaraz, greeting participants who contribute to transforming the town's history and monuments into cultural and tourist attractions. He highlighted the unique nature of the festival, which occurs biennially and uses the historic streets and spaces of Alcaraz as a backdrop to recreate the Renaissance period.

Ruiz Santos also acknowledged the efforts of the Alcaraz Town Hall and the Alcaraz Renacentista Association in solidifying this initiative, which has expanded its reach and reinforced its regional significance. This year, nearly 160 reenactors are participating, primarily from Alcaraz and nearby towns, alongside groups from other Spanish provinces and even Portugal.

The theme for this year's edition revolves around Isabel of Portugal and her arrival in the Lordship of Alcaraz five centuries ago, offering attendees a glimpse into the power transfer between the former lord of Alcaraz and Isabel herself. The festival includes a variety of activities throughout the weekend, such as parades, historical reenactments, live music, traditional games, and product tastings, along with concerts at the Church of the Holy Trinity.

Ruiz Santos encouraged the public to enjoy the full programme and invited visitors to experience the festivities in Alcaraz over the weekend.
