Madrid reaffirms commitment to local talent and administrative simplification

Angel Niño, the councillor for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Madrid, participated in the presentation of the 2026 Entrepreneurship Map, a report analysing the state and evolution of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Spain. The event served to assess both local and international entrepreneurial developments, with Niño emphasising the importance of maintaining Madrid as a city of opportunities for new entrepreneurs.

The 2026 Entrepreneurship Map, produced by South Summit and IE University, examined a total of 2,753 startups from various countries, showcasing the region's global appeal. During his address, Niño stated, “As Madrid grows and projects itself internationally in global technology and investment circuits, it is essential to pay special attention to those wishing to take their first entrepreneurial steps.”

He also noted that “the greatest challenge for a successful city is to retain its accessibility for new projects.” Consequently, he reiterated the city council's commitment to supporting entrepreneurs during both prosperous times and challenges, promoting specialised spaces such as Madrid Innovation and initiatives like Madrid in Game.

The latest snapshot of Madrid's tech ecosystem reveals that the capital is home to 1,801 startups in the sector, generating over 30,700 jobs and approximately €5 billion in annual revenue. These companies operate across diverse fields, including finance, artificial intelligence, health, energy, and digital services.

The most recent GEM report for Madrid also reflects this growth, indicating that more than 40% of entrepreneurial projects incorporate technological innovations or improvements in their processes, with one in three having an international focus. Furthermore, Madrid serves as a significant international meeting point, evidenced by major events and conferences such as South Summit, which had an estimated economic impact of nearly €42 million in its latest edition, connecting talent, businesses, and investors from La Nave.
