The second round of the Superliga Masculina de voleibol will showcase a highly anticipated regional derby between CV Cisneros La Laguna and CV Guaguas, two of the most decorated teams in Canary Islands volleyball. The match will take place on 24 October at 18:30 in the Juan Ríos Tejera Pavilion, located in La Laguna.
This encounter marks the home debut for CV Cisneros La Laguna against the reigning champions, CV Guaguas. The Cisneros team arrives with positive momentum after securing their first victory of the season in a closely contested tie-break against UC3M Voleibol Leganés (2-3) during a challenging away match at the Pabellón Europa.
Meanwhile, CV Guaguas enters the match as the current league leaders, having won decisively against CV Suac Canarias (0-3) in the Gran Canaria derby during the opening round. Cisneros coach Máximo Torcello acknowledged Guaguas as “the clear favourites to win the competition,” praising their strong team cohesion developed over many years.
“They have a solid squad with high-quality players, making them a tough opponent to beat. They will likely propose an offensive game, featuring powerful serves,” Torcello added.
This clash promises to be an exciting affair, highlighting the regional rivalry between two of the most successful clubs in Canary Islands volleyball, with the added incentive for the Tenerife-based team to challenge the reigning champions. Guaguas will need to contend with the atmosphere at Juan Ríos Tejera and deliver their best performance to return to Gran Canaria with another victory.
Guaguas coach Sergio Miguel Camarero is well aware of the challenges ahead, stating, “We know it will be a tough away game, and we expect a hostile environment on their court. Every year, they make things difficult for us, but this team is prepared to face such challenges and compete at the highest level. We are going all out, aiming to bring home the three points from the neighbouring island. A derby is always special, and we want to rise to the occasion,” he remarked ahead of the match.
