Lleida-born pianist Ricard Viñes is currently featured at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris as part of the exhibition 'Gustave Fayet. Collectionneur – Creador', which opened on 9 October and will run until 8 March 2027. This exhibition recovers the figure of Gustave Fayet (1865-1925), a collector, artist, patron, and promoter of decorative arts, highlighting the artistic and intellectual circles of early 20th-century Europe, of which Viñes was a part.

Viñes' personal diary, displayed in the exhibition, has been instrumental in reconstructing Fayet's trajectory. His presence is particularly noted in 'La Nuit', one of three large panels created by symbolist painter Odilon Redon for the library of the Cistercian abbey of Fontfroide in southern France. This monumental composition features portraits of around thirty individuals connected to Fayet, including Ricard Viñes, Fayet himself, his family, and other prominent figures from the artistic circle of the time.

The panels 'Le Jour', 'La Nuit', and 'Le Silence' were commissioned by Fayet from Redon in 1910 and installed in the Fontfroide library in 1911. Their presence in Paris offers a unique opportunity to discover these works outside their original setting and simultaneously recover a chapter of the relationship between visual arts and music.

Viñes' connection to this cultural environment deepens the understanding of his artistic journey. Trained in Barcelona and based in Paris from a young age, Viñes became a prominent figure in Parisian musical life and a performer closely linked to the composers and artists who championed new musical languages. His work significantly contributed to the recognition of contemporary composers and fostered dialogue between music and other artistic disciplines.

The exhibition dedicates all spaces of the Fondation Louis Vuitton to Fayet's career, combining his role as a collector with his own artistic production. It features a total of 728 works and documents, including pieces by Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, and Odilon Redon, as well as Fayet's creations in painting, watercolour, ceramics, textiles, and tapestries. The exhibition also allows for a rediscovery of Fayet's role as a defender of avant-garde movements and as a catalyst for an environment where artists from various disciplines shared projects and concerns.

Ricard Viñes' presence in this international exhibition enhances the understanding of his legacy and situates him within the European cultural context in which he developed his career. In the framework of the Year of Ricard Viñes i Roda, this reference not only highlights his contribution to music history but also the personal and artistic relationships that connected him with some of the most prominent figures of modernity.
