Feijóo calls for mobilisation ahead of elections amid concerns over opposition

Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the president of the People's Party (PP), has raised concerns about efforts to undermine his party's success in the upcoming elections scheduled for 29 November. Speaking at a pre-campaign rally in Vigo, attended by nearly 2,000 supporters, Feijóo urged his followers to work diligently towards victory, asserting that he is ready to govern.

During his address, Feijóo pledged to address the judicial cases affecting the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) if he reaches the Moncloa Palace, the official residence of the Spanish Prime Minister. He emphasised the need for a clean electoral process and contrasted the political stability in Galicia, where the PP has been in power since 2009, with what he described as the mismanagement of the current government led by Pedro Sánchez.

Feijóo called for a change in government, advocating for a fairer regional funding system and measures to enhance access to housing. His proposals include constructing one million new homes, evicting illegal occupants within 48 hours, and reducing tax burdens in response to rising living costs. In terms of economic policy, he suggested deflating personal income tax (IRPF), exempting self-employed individuals earning less than €85,000 from taxation, applying a 0% VAT on electricity and essential food items during the inflation period, and eliminating taxes on the purchase of first homes in rural areas.

Additionally, Feijóo took aim at former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and questioned the credibility of the current government leader. He concluded his speech by reiterating the necessity for political change in Spain and encouraged his party to consider every vote crucial as the elections approach.
