Cámara de comercio de Sevilla marks 140th anniversary with future-focused projects

The Cámara de Comercio de Sevilla celebrated its 140th anniversary by connecting its historical roots with ambitious future projects. The event took place at the Real Alcázar, commemorating its establishment in 1886 and reaffirming the city’s mercantile heritage, dating back to the Consulado de Cargadores a Indias.

Sponsored by Unicaja and supported by Grupo Azvi, Biomol, and Antea, the celebration was held in the Patio de la Montería of the Real Alcázar. Dignitaries in attendance included the Mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz; the Vice President and Minister of Tourism, Justice, Deregulation and Local Administration of the Junta de Andalucía, Manuel Gavira; the Minister of Employment, Business and Work of the Junta, Rocío Blanco; and the Minister of Culture, Historical Heritage and Sport of the Junta, Patricia del Pozo.

This milestone not only marks over a century of business representation but also links the historical significance of the chamber with the structural and technological challenges that lie ahead. Through several audiovisual presentations, the chamber took attendees on a journey through its past, present, and future goals.

The President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla, reflected on the chamber's legacy, stating, “It is a story of success. It is very difficult today for an institution to survive historical, social, economic, and political upheavals. Yet, the Cámara de Comercio de Sevilla has endured for nearly a century and a half, with a commitment to the city, the province of Seville, economic activity, and progress that is commendable.”

Regarding the role of chambers in the economic transformation of Andalucía, the President emphasised, “Our Chambers of Commerce are essential because they support, train, and assist in the digitalisation of businesses, making them more competitive and productive, and aiding in internationalisation. They are crucial in supporting our productive fabric for this great transformation that, together, I am convinced we will achieve.”

Mayor José Luis Sanz highlighted the decisive role of the Cámara de Comercio de Sevilla as the main driver of business projects, solidifying the city’s status as the economic capital of southern Spain and Andalucía. He also noted the institution's function as an intermediary and facilitator of initiatives that lead to job creation, wealth, and economic growth. He concluded by expressing his gratitude and congratulations for the chamber's ongoing collaboration with the city council and the value it will continue to bring to the city’s future.
