The City Council of Madrid, in collaboration with the Municipal Transport Company (EMT Madrid), is set to reopen the Montalbán car park on Monday, 26 October, after completing extensive renovations over the past year.
Located behind the iconic Palacio de Cibeles, the car park features a total of 278 spaces, with 137 on level -1 and 141 on level -2. Among these, 141 spaces are designated for residents, seven are equipped for electric vehicle charging (including four high-power chargers), seven are reserved for individuals with reduced mobility (one of which is suitable for electric PMR vehicles), nine are allocated for bicycles, and seven for motorcycles.
Covering an area of 8,289 square metres, the car park has been in operation since 1968 and has been managed by EMT since April 2017. Given its more than 50 years of service, significant upgrades were necessary, including structural reinforcement, waterproofing of the roof, repairs to perimeter walls and ramps, resurfacing, and the replacement of all electrical, lighting, and ventilation systems. These improvements aim to bring the facility up to current accessibility and energy efficiency standards.
The renovation project had a budget of approximately €8.2 million (excluding VAT). Currently, EMT Madrid manages a total of 13,055 parking spaces across the capital, which are distributed among various facilities, including rotation, resident, mixed-use, and mobility hubs such as Canalejas 360, Recoletos 360, Plaza de España 360, and Artilleros 360.
