The XII muestra nacional de teatro aficionado will be held at the Teatro Ideal in Calahorra from 16 January to 21 February 2027. This year, the event has attracted 62 theatrical works submitted by amateur theatre companies and groups from several provinces in Spain. The high number of entries underscores the cultural initiative's popularity, which aims to promote non-professional theatre, support the creative activities of amateur groups, and enhance the cultural offerings and theatrical programming in the city.
A panel of judges will select a maximum of four performances from the 62 submissions, along with two additional reserve options. The chosen works can belong to any theatrical genre and must be performed entirely in Spanish, with a duration of between 50 and 120 minutes. These four selected plays will be staged at the Teatro Ideal in Calahorra. Additionally, the local company Tagaste will perform outside of the competition.
The artistic committee, which includes the Councillor for Culture and a representative from the local theatre groups La Canilla and Tagaste, will evaluate all submitted proposals based on criteria such as overall artistic quality, direction and interpretation, originality, staging, technical feasibility, and cultural relevance to the festival's programming.
The selected works may receive a maximum financial contribution of €1,200, including taxes, to cover expenses related to their participation, such as fees, travel, accommodation, meals, and the transportation and setup of scenery.
With this new call for entries for the muestra nacional de teatro aficionado, the Calahorra City Council reaffirms its commitment to amateur theatre and the promotion of cultural initiatives that aim to bring the performing arts closer to the community and invigorate the city's cultural life.
