Mayor Abel Caballero welcomed eight new members of the Vigo Fire Brigade on Friday, marking their official entry into the service following a comprehensive training period. With this latest addition, the city now boasts a total of 138 firefighters, including one chief, one sub-officer, eight sergeants, seven corporals, 83 firefighters, and 38 drivers.
Caballero highlighted that over the past four months, 35 new firefighters have joined the ranks, representing the largest increase in personnel in the history of the Concello de Vigo, the city's local government.
During the welcome ceremony, the mayor praised the high level of professional qualification of the new recruits, who have successfully passed a competitive examination, practical training, and extensive preparation. He emphasised the importance of their role, stating, "The city knows that if something happens, you will be there. People expect you to act whenever needed, and you have always demonstrated your commitment during emergencies, such as during fires."
