Local government advances new road to improve mobility in Coruxo

The Urban Planning Department is progressing with plans to improve mobility in the Coruxo and Candeán areas of Vigo, Spain. This includes the initiation of expropriation processes aimed at widening existing roads. A new connection between Combro and Carrasqueira streets is a key objective of this project.

According to Mayor Abel Caballero, the formal start of the land transfer process will be announced during the Urban Planning meeting on Tuesday. This will allow the local government to acquire part of the necessary land for the new road. The initiative aims to enhance mobility in a particularly complex area, which is home to two significant educational institutions.

As part of the urban agreement, landowners will transfer 814 square metres of their approximately 2,000 square metre plot to the local council while retaining three buildable plots. This effort is complemented by another ongoing expropriation process to secure the remaining land needed for the road.

The local government is also working to improve access to the Candeán festival grounds. An expropriation process is already underway to create a new entrance to the site. Additionally, a supplementary procedure has been established to enhance accessibility in the area by expropriating approximately 30 square metres on the opposite side of San Cristovo street. Caballero emphasised that the goal is to improve both pedestrian and vehicular access in the region.

In related news, the mayor announced the allocation of a new grant under the housing rehabilitation aid programme to promote the rental market. A total of €74,000 in grants has already been awarded, with nearly twenty applications currently under review. Caballero noted that the programme's budget is set at €2,150,000 to finance rehabilitation works, energy efficiency certification, and insurance contracts. Grants can reach up to €20,000 and are provided as non-repayable funds.
