The Town Hall of Torrevieja has informed residents about the activation of an orange alert for heavy rain on Sunday, 18 October. This warning, issued by the Agency for Security and Emergencies of the Valencian Community, affects the southern coastline of Alicante province.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), storms are expected to produce rainfall of up to 50 litres per square metre within an hour. The alert will be in effect from midnight until 10:00 on Sunday morning.
An orange alert indicates a significant danger to the population. In light of the potential for worsening weather conditions, residents are urged to exercise caution and adhere to the following recommendations:
- Avoid unnecessary travel during the rain event.
- For outdoor activities at municipal sports facilities, it is advisable to use indoor spaces as an alternative if conditions deteriorate.
The urban transport service will remain operational. The Municipal Operational Coordination Centre (CECOPAL) in Torrevieja has been active since the alert was issued on Saturday and will continue to monitor the situation closely, implementing necessary measures as required.
Additionally, municipal services and brigades will have an extra team on standby to address any emergencies that may arise. This coordinated response will involve the Local Police, Civil Guard, and Firefighters to ensure rapid assistance.
