Razo beach is hosting the fourth edition of the edommo surf pro from today until Sunday, marking a significant upgrade as it joins the World Surf League (WSL) international calendar. A total of 150 professional surfers from various parts of Europe are competing for 2,000 points in both the men's and women's categories of the Qualifying Series (QS 2,000).

The first heats took place this morning under favourable conditions, with calm winds and waves exceeding one metre in height. Concurrently, the official presentation of the championship was held at the Espazo Nature, attended by Carballo's mayor, Daniel Pérez; provincial sports deputy, Antonio Leira; head of the Provincial Tourism Area of the Xunta de Galicia, Ana Teresa Cimas; Edommo representative, Francisco Manuel López; surfers Janire González and Arianne Ochoa; and event organiser, Yago Barreto.

Mayor Pérez highlighted the evolution of this event, which enhances Carballo's presence in the international sports arena. “It is a way to showcase our municipality and put Razo on the global surfing map,” he stated, also emphasising the event's positive impact on the local economy. “It helps to diversify tourism and generate wealth. Carballo is presenting itself through sport.”

Hosting the championship in October helps extend the tourist season beyond summer and promotes the natural and sporting resources of the municipality. In this regard, Antonio Leira underscored the importance of collaboration between administrations to promote initiatives that combine sports promotion with tourism diversification. Ana Teresa Cimas also noted the ability of sporting events to attract visitors to Galicia.

Yago Barreto, from the organising team, expressed gratitude for the support from public and private sponsors that enabled this upgrade in status and highlighted the significance of Razo's inclusion in the WSL international calendar. Surfers Janire González and Arianne Ochoa praised the quality of Razo's waves and the opportunity this event provides to further explore Galicia.

The competition will continue until 18 October, transforming the Carballo beach into a meeting point for European surfing and showcasing Carballo as a sporting and tourist destination.
