The Tarragona City Council has announced a €150,000 investment in a new edition of the Bons Comerç campaign, set to run from 7 to 30 November. The initiative aims to stimulate local economic activity, boost sales in nearby establishments, and establish Tarragona as a commercial hub in the region.
Launched today, the campaign will provide 30,000 vouchers, each worth €5, which can be redeemed at participating shops and services. Individuals over the age of 18 can obtain a maximum of four vouchers, offering up to €20 in discounts on their purchases.
Montse Adan, the councillor for Economic Promotion, Commerce, and Tourism, emphasised the project's significance, stating, "This initiative began in 2021 as a response to the pandemic and has been repeated and consolidated in the city each year." She noted that the four editions of Bons Comerç Tarragona have mobilised millions of euros in local consumption and have proven to be an effective tool for enhancing the city's economic activity.
Adan further remarked that the initiative has become a staple in Tarragona's commercial calendar, showcasing collaboration between the administration, business entities, and local commerce.
Participation from local businesses
Any public establishment in Tarragona with fewer than 50 employees and engaged in eligible activities can join the campaign. Participating sectors include food, fashion, footwear, bookstores, toy shops, perfumeries, home goods, restaurants, hairdressers, beauty centres, photography services, dry cleaners, tourist accommodations, travel agencies, and authorised market stalls, among others. No membership in a commercial association is required.
The campaign is open to anyone aged 18 and over, regardless of their municipality of residence, a move designed to enhance Tarragona's commercial appeal.
Simplified administration and campaign operation
This edition introduces measures to streamline participation for businesses, replacing several certificates with responsible declarations during the registration process. A telephone and email support service will be available for businesses from 20 October, and for the public starting 7 November. A physical support point will also be established to assist those with digital difficulties or without compatible devices, as well as to distribute printed vouchers.
The campaign operates simply: each €5 voucher requires a minimum purchase of €15. For instance, a €15 purchase will cost €10 after applying the voucher, a €30 purchase will cost €20, and a €60 purchase will be reduced to €40. This structure is expected to generate a minimum estimated economic impact of €450,000 in consumption at participating establishments.
Campaign timeline
The first phase of the campaign, which involves registration for businesses, runs from 20 October to 2 November. The campaign will officially launch with a celebration on Friday, 6 November, at the second section of Rambla Nova, between Sant Agustí and Sant Francesc streets. The event will feature a community chocolate gathering at 17:30 and an open celebration starting at 18:00.
From 7 November, citizens can begin registering and obtaining vouchers, which will be valid for seven calendar days from activation. The campaign will conclude by 30 November, although previous editions suggest that most vouchers will be redeemed in the initial weeks.
