New infrastructure enhances safety on León-A Coruña railway line

The Spanish railway infrastructure manager, Adif, has completed the construction of a new overpass in the municipality of Bóveda, aimed at enhancing safety on the León-A Coruña railway line. This project has resulted in the removal of three level crossings located at the 426/371, 426/800, and 427/218 kilometre points of the conventional railway.

The initiative involved an investment of one million euros and is expected to improve safety conditions for both vehicle circulation and railway traffic. The new structure spans 42.70 metres in length and 9.60 metres in width, featuring two traffic lanes of 3.50 metres each, 0.50-metre shoulders, and side spaces designated for containment systems.

In addition to constructing the overpass, the project included the upgrading of access roads and the installation of new barriers to prevent unauthorised access to the railway tracks. The closure of the three level crossings will be completed with the dismantling of their existing elements.

Further improvements in the Ourense-Lugo corridor

The elimination of these level crossings is part of broader efforts by Adif to enhance safety in the Ourense-Monforte-Lugo corridor. Additional interventions are planned to remove further railway crossings in locations such as Ourense, Monforte de Lemos, Sarria, and Lugo.

These works are part of the renovation of the 117-kilometre Ourense-Monforte de Lemos-Lugo railway corridor, which includes modernising the tracks, improving structures, adapting bridges and tunnels, and electrifying the Monforte-Lugo section.
