Tarragona council awards contract for new gym in Sant Pere and Sant Pau

The council of Tarragona has awarded the contract for the construction of a new gym in the Sant Pere and Sant Pau neighbourhood. This project will also expand the existing municipal sports complex by adding a new aquatic area, updated changing rooms, and renovations to the reception area.

The contract has been awarded to Romà Infraestructures i Serveis Sau for a total of €2,297,755.99, including VAT. Mario Soler, the council's sports councillor, stated, "This is the definitive step towards making a long-awaited project a reality for the residents of Sant Pere and Sant Pau," highlighting the city's commitment to expanding its sports offerings.

The construction is expected to take 24 months, starting once the safety and health plan is approved. The project includes a new building of 1,649 square metres located between the municipal swimming pool and the sports pavilion. The ground floor will house the new changing rooms, while the first floor will feature activity rooms, a gym, and rehabilitation spaces.

Additionally, the current municipal swimming pool area will be reorganised to create accessible changing rooms and a completely renovated aquatic zone, which will include a steam room, sauna, and biothermal showers. The new gym building will also feature an elevator to ensure accessibility throughout the sports complex and connect with the existing pavilion.
