Ronda council to invest nearly 700,000 euros in sports centre renovation

The council of Ronda has announced a significant investment of 696,903.44 euros to enhance the Cristóbal Guerrero Covered Sports Centre, located in the San Francisco neighbourhood. Mayor Mari Paz Fernández revealed the plans during a Local Government Board meeting on Tuesday, where the project for the renovation of the sports facilities was approved.

Fernández highlighted the need for this intervention due to existing deficiencies in the facility, which is named after the beloved local pilot. The renovation aims to improve the infrastructure for users and the wider community of Ronda.

Sports Councillor Nardi Crespo visited the sports centre on Wednesday and provided details about the renovation, which will address issues such as humidity caused by problems with the roofing and structural integrity. He stated that the comprehensive renovation would allow users to essentially enjoy a brand new facility.

The sports centre serves various users, including the Municipal Sports Area, local clubs, and the Fernando de los Ríos school, part of the Unicaja Ronda Foundation. Crespo indicated that the renovation work is set to commence at the end of this year or the beginning of the next, with an expected duration of around one year. During the renovation, activities will be relocated to minimise disruption for users.

The renovation will include repairs to the roofing, structural issues, refurbishment of the main court floor, restrooms, and changing rooms, as well as upgrades to the basketball court motors and electrical and insulation systems. Additional improvements will involve replacing windows and installing an elevator for the three floors of the building.
