Fuerteventura launches second category lucha canaria league

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has presented the Cororasa-Prefabricados El Manadero second category lucha canaria league, which will see competition among the clubs El Rosario, Unión Tetir, and Saladar de Jandía. During the launch event, the president of the Cabildo, Lola García, highlighted the high standard of lucha canaria on the island and wished the participating teams the best of luck.

“It is a source of pride to witness the values of our traditional sport in the terrero: effort, camaraderie, and above all, identity. We must thank the teams, the Federation, the fans, and the sponsors who make lucha canaria possible in Fuerteventura,” García stated.

The Cabildo supports the second category league through funding directed to the Insular Federation of Lucha and the three clubs as part of its sports aid programme. Luis González, the councillor for Sports, expressed optimism about the league's prospects, stating, “Expectations are high. This second category league is a sound decision, as it has been chosen by the clubs' management, who work year-round to ensure lucha canaria thrives in Fuerteventura.”

The league kicks off this Saturday with a match between Unión Tetir and Saladar de Jandía. During the event, representatives from Cororasa and Prefabricados El Manadero signed sponsorship agreements with the Insular Federation of Lucha Canaria to support the league's development. Additionally, the youth categories, including infant, cadet, and junior levels, are also backed by sponsors OPC and Sumytrans.
