In a collaborative effort between the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and the Taupa euskaltzaleen mugimendua, the 'Euskararen Kriseilua' initiative is set to launch in 12 educational centres across Bilbao until 21 November. The programme aims to encourage families to reflect on their linguistic habits and increase their use of euskera, the Basque language.
'Euskararen Kriseilua', which translates to 'the candil of euskera', is part of the broader 'Bizkaian bagara. Berbak zubi' programme, which seeks to mobilise individuals from various sectors to promote the use of euskera. This collaboration between the two organisations will continue until 2027, with the goal of strengthening active communities in support of the language.
The initiative not only aims to enhance positive attitudes towards euskera but also to expand the opportunities for integrating the language into daily life. It encourages families to become 'guardians of the light' of euskera, taking on challenges to increase its use so that the flame of the language remains alive.
As part of the initiative, students from Artxandape Ikastola took the candil on an excursion, demonstrating their commitment to the project and sharing a meaningful experience outside their family environment.
In total, the initiative encompasses 12 educational centres and involves 496 students. The participating centres include:
- Artxandape Ikastola
- CPI Pagasarribide
- IPI Fray Juan Ikastetxea
- Intxixu Ikastola
- IES Iruarteta
- San Ignazio Eskola
- Tiboli Eskola
- Uribarri Eskola
- Urretxindorra Ikastola
- Zazpilanda Eskola
- CEIP Zurbaran
- CEIP Zurbaranbarri
Through the candil, new possibilities for the emotional transmission of euskera are being opened, influencing linguistic habits from community to community, and helping to ignite the use of the Basque language.
