Huelva prepares for All Saints' Day with enhanced cemetery access and services

The city council of Huelva has announced a special arrangement of municipal services in anticipation of the All Saints' Day and the Day of the Dead. This initiative includes enhanced cleaning and maintenance, increased local police presence, and a special bus service to facilitate access to La Soledad Municipal Cemetery.

Recent improvements have also been made to parking facilities and pedestrian access around the cemetery, aimed at accommodating the expected influx of visitors during this time. Mariló Ponce, the councillor for Infrastructure and Public Services, emphasised the importance of ensuring municipal services are ready to assist families visiting the cemetery during these significant days.

Ponce noted that the enhancements, which include new parking spaces and a pedestrian connection to the cemetery's parking area, will make visits more comfortable and accessible. The Infrastructure and Public Services department has planned extraordinary cleaning and maintenance tasks both inside the cemetery and in its vicinity, including access routes and parking areas.

Additionally, the frequency of waste collection will be increased, and efforts to maintain green spaces and gardens will be intensified to accommodate the higher number of visitors. Recent maintenance work has included painting various areas of the cemetery.

Among the recent improvements is the refurbishment of the area adjacent to the main entrance of the British Cemetery, next to La Soledad Municipal Cemetery. This project, awarded by the city council for €238,850.25, has transformed a 3,107.91 square metre area previously covered in gravel into a well-defined parking space. It now features 49 marked parking spaces, eight of which are reserved for individuals with reduced mobility, and has organised vehicle circulation within the area.

A new pavement has also been constructed, linking it to the existing path in the cemetery's parking area, creating a continuous pedestrian route between the two spaces, which includes small landscaped areas.

The local police will establish a special surveillance and traffic management plan around the cemetery, focusing on organising and controlling parking areas to facilitate access for citizens.

Special bus service

The Municipal Transport Company, EMTUSA, will activate a special bus service to the cemetery on 31 October, 1 November, and 2 November. Buses will depart from the Zafra central station at 09:30, 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, and 13:30, with additional departures in the afternoon at 16:30 and 17:30. Return trips from the cemetery will be at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, and 14:00, as well as at 17:00 and 18:00. The ticket price will be €1.50, applicable to both the special ticket and the Bonobús card. This extraordinary service will operate alongside the regular services of lines 3 and 4, which will maintain their usual routes and schedules to the cemetery. Complete information on routes, stops, and schedules can be found on the EMTUSA website.
