Harlem Globetrotters to return to Spain in 2027 with new rivals and a ten-city tour

The Harlem Globetrotters will return to Gijón on 12 May 2027, promising a show that combines basketball, acrobatics, humour, and family entertainment. The event is scheduled for 19:00 at the Palacio de Deportes de la Guía - Adolfo Suárez and is part of the national tour 'Harlem Globetrotters: Rivals', marking a new chapter for the iconic team following their centenary celebrations.

Tour details and new rivals

The tour will span ten Spanish cities from 3 to 14 May, including performances in Madrid, Valencia, Sevilla, Málaga, Tenerife, Barcelona, Santiago de Compostela, Gijón, Bilbao, and Mallorca. A significant highlight of this edition will be the introduction of two new rival teams alongside the traditional Washington Generals. While their names and identities have yet to be revealed, their inclusion is expected to bring fresh match-ups and challenges to the court.

Audience engagement

This new tour aims to enhance audience interaction. For the first time, attendees will be able to participate in live voting to determine specific challenges during the show. Additionally, some spectators will have the chance to step onto the court to take a free throw, act as coaches for a quarter, or appear on the giant scoreboard. The experience will kick off with a free opening party featuring interactive activities and entertainment from the moment the doors open.

A century of basketball entertainment

Founded in 1926, the Harlem Globetrotters have become one of the most recognised teams in basketball history. Their unique blend of sport and entertainment has allowed them to perform in over 124 countries and territories across all six continents. Throughout their history, they have set more than 80 Guinness World Records and entertained millions of fans, bridging generations.

Proactiv Entertainment, the promoter responsible for their tours in Spain, has organised eleven tours of the team in the country. CEO Nicolás Renna emphasised that this new phase aims to expand the fan experience by introducing new rivals and fostering greater audience participation.

Tickets and discounts for Gijón performance

Ticket sales will feature several special promotions. Pre-sale tickets will be available from 28 October to 4 November 2026, offering a 20% discount through Mitaquilla.com. Following this, general sales will begin on 5 November, with a 15% discount available until 12 November, subject to the organiser's terms. The promoter advises purchasing tickets only through official channels to avoid extra costs and potential access issues from reselling.

The performance on 12 May 2027 in Gijón will be the only announced stop in Asturias during this tour, bringing one of the world's most popular basketball shows back to the Asturian audience.
