The municipal library at the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Cultural Centre in Torremolinos is set to resume its diverse programming this October, featuring a variety of activities aimed at different audiences. The schedule includes book presentations, reading clubs, storytelling sessions, theatre performances, and workshops, with a special event, 'Literary Cabins', taking place on 24 October to celebrate Library Day.
The regular workshops commenced on 13 October, starting with new sessions of 'Working with Emotions in Times of Change', which will also be held on 20 and 27 October in the cultural centre's cinema room. Led by Conchi Bañasco, this workshop combines theory and practice through exercises in emotional intelligence, art therapy, and mindfulness, aiming to equip participants with tools for emotional self-regulation.
Every Wednesday, the art therapy workshop 'Shape What You Feel' invites participants to explore various forms of artistic expression to connect with their emotions, taking place at the El Pozuelo Active Participation Centre. Also on Wednesdays, the cinema room at the Cultural Centre hosts a 'Creative Writing' workshop led by Felipe Cambón, where participants can develop different resources and techniques related to literary creation.
Thursdays feature the return of 'Calm Emotions', again directed by Conchi Bañasco, focusing on emotional relationships through presence, serenity, and self-care at the El Pozuelo centre. Additionally, the 'Torremolinos Storytellers' writing workshop will be held twice a month on Fridays, with sessions scheduled for 16 and 30 October at the El Pozuelo centre, led by Cristina Soriano.
Reading clubs
The programming for October also marks the return of reading clubs. The children's reading club will soon commence, taking place on Fridays in the library's children's area, aimed at children aged 7 to 11. On the last Saturday of the month, 24 October, the 'Women Write' reading club, coordinated by Marina Ortega, will meet to discuss and debate a literary work.
All workshops and reading clubs are free of charge but require prior registration through the Torremolinos Despega app under the 'Activity Registration' section for the library.
Library Day celebrations
In honour of Library Day on 24 October, the 'Literary Cabins' initiative will feature the installation of three telephone booths in Plaza Costa del Sol. Users can listen to excerpts from works by authors such as Gloria Fuertes, Antonio Machado, and Shakespeare, performed by renowned actors. The day's programming will also include a theatrical storytelling session, 'The Book of Tales', designed to engage young audiences in literature through an entertaining and participatory format.
Book presentations
The library's October schedule is further enriched with various literary events. On 17 October, the children's area will host the presentation of 'Aako, the Warrior Queen' by Angie Fernanda González Castro. The month will conclude with the presentation of 'The Kingdom of No Importance' by Jana on 29 October in the Manuel Blasco room. Additionally, on 16 October, the Cultural Centre will feature the performance 'They Are the 27', commemorating the Day of Women Writers and the centenary of the Generation of '27'.
All activities are free and open to the public until full capacity is reached. The complete programme can be viewed at www.torremolinoscultura.es.
