Soria to host seventh cycle of feminist encounters with diverse activities

The seventh cycle of feminist encounters is set to commence in Soria, running from November 2026 to May 2027. The programme will include a variety of activities such as conferences, theatre performances, and workshops, addressing critical issues like the influence of social media on gender stereotypes and the societal pressures surrounding motherhood.

Gloria Gonzalo, the city’s councillor for equality, announced the initiative on 21 October 2026, highlighting its aim to bring together prominent figures in feminist thought, education, research, culture, and activism. This year’s cycle promises to foster reflection on contemporary challenges related to gender equality while also honouring the historical contributions of women.

Programme highlights

The cycle will kick off on 6 November with a conference by sociologist Carmen Ruiz Repullo, titled “Reconfiguring the feed: patriarchal algorithms and their influence on adolescence.” This session will explore the manosphere and the impact of digital masculinity models, as well as issues like cosmeticorexia among young people.

Throughout November, workshops focusing on well-being and body expression will also begin, including a yoga session led by Miriam Romero. December will feature a theatrical production about Leonora Carrington, an artist and writer known for challenging societal norms.

In January, Claudia Campillo will address childhood sexual violence in her conference “My grandfather stole my childhood, but not my voice,” while Isa Duque, known as La Psico Woman, will lead a session on supporting Generation Z.

February will see discussions on motherhood with Gloria Labay, who will present “Being without being a mother: grief, maternal mandates, and other ways of being a woman.” This will include a workshop on societal expectations surrounding motherhood.

Continuing the conversation

March’s events will combine themes of democratic memory and communication, featuring the play “Melón Pelao,” which recounts the experiences of women during the Spanish Civil War. Journalist Macarena Baena will discuss the importance of gender-sensitive journalism.

In April, Marian Moreno Llaneza will focus on co-education and the internalised stereotypes we all hold, while writer Gloria Fortún will explore feminist perspectives in literature.

The cycle will conclude in May with historian Carmen Guillén Lorente, who will discuss the historical context of the Patronato de Protección a la Mujer, an institution that enforced gender norms during Franco’s regime.

A commitment to equality

Gonzalo emphasised that the initiative aims to engage a diverse audience, including adult women, adolescents, families, and the broader community. She reiterated that achieving equality is a collective responsibility that requires proactive measures to address the root causes of inequality.

Activities will take place at the Espacio Feminista Concha de Marco, the Centro Cultural Palacio de la Audiencia, and the Centro Cultural Espacio Alameda. Further details and ticket reservations are available at ciclofeminismo.soria.es and entradas.soria.es.
