Madrid to invest 3.5 million euros in new green space in Moratalaz

The Madrid City Council has approved a contract for the construction of a green space in the Moratalaz district, which will serve as an open area for various activities. The project is set to be completed within 12 months and has a total budget of 3.5 million euros, including VAT.

This initiative, driven by the Moratalaz District Board, aims to utilise a municipal plot currently unused, located between Encomienda de Palacios, Hacienda de Pavones, Fuente Carrantona, and Valdebernardo streets. The site features existing trees and diverse vegetation, with plans to create a new area for sports, cultural, gastronomic, and leisure activities, as well as climate refuge spaces for residents.

Key features of the project include the establishment of a forest through the planting of new trees, the expansion of pedestrian and cycling pathways, the connection of existing routes with new ones, and the enlargement of the current square, which will incorporate children's play areas and public restrooms. This square will serve as the main access point to the new green space.

To facilitate this transformation, an open procedure will be initiated for the contracting of the described works, aiming to enhance public use and improve the availability of green spaces and communal areas in the Moratalaz district.
