Madrid authorities to invest €51.2 million in primary social care

The Madrid City Council and the Community of Madrid have announced a new collaboration agreement aimed at enhancing primary social care services for vulnerable populations. The agreement, approved by the Junta de Gobierno, will provide a total funding of €51.2 million for the period from 2027 to 2030.

This partnership, which has been in place since 2015, aims to address social exclusion and support individuals in precarious situations. The funding will be allocated to various essential social services, including support for families, initiatives to combat child poverty, and mental health promotion.

Of the total funding, €9.8 million will be directed towards basic social service provisions across 40 municipal social service centres. These centres offer social advice, intervention, and follow-up for users, addressing issues such as economic hardship, inadequate family support, homelessness, and lack of personal autonomy.

Additionally, €597,000 will be allocated to comprehensive protection services for children and adolescents facing violence, available through 12 child care centres (Centros de Atención a la Infancia, CAI). These centres specialise in social intervention for minors aged 0 to 17 who are at serious social risk or in neglectful situations, providing social, educational, and psychological support.

Furthermore, €1.1 million will be dedicated to family protection resources and initiatives aimed at alleviating child poverty, specifically targeting families in severe vulnerability or at risk of poverty with dependent children. The agreement also includes a €197,000 budget for the Plan for the Development of the Roma Community, which focuses on initiatives for the prevention of marginalisation and social integration.

Finally, the collaboration will promote emotional well-being, with a specific focus on enhancing protective factors and reducing risk factors. This includes a dedicated budget of €1 million for mental health initiatives.

The new agreement is set to come into effect on 1 January 2027 and will remain in force until 31 December 2030, with an annual budget of €12.8 million. There is also the possibility of extending the agreement for an additional four years.
