The Lugo Music School resumes classes after two years and launches an instrument lending programme to enhance access to musical education.

Lugo music school reopens with instrument lending programme

The Lugo Music School has officially resumed its classes following a two-year hiatus, thanks to the recent approval of a modification to the Relationship of Job Positions (RPT) by the local government. This afternoon, the school will welcome students back to its classrooms.

Elena Candia, the mayor of Lugo, expressed her satisfaction with the outcome of the management process that addresses the demands of the Municipal Music Band staff, who also teach at the school. “This first modification of the RPT has received its definitive approval. We have made an effort and worked hard to meet the requests of this group and fulfil our commitments. Today, we see the practical result of this work with the recovery of a service that has been closed for two years,” she stated.

The reopening of the Lugo Music School marks a significant step forward, allowing for both teaching activities and increased musical training opportunities for the community.

Second registration period opens

In line with the start of classes on Tuesday, the local council has announced a second registration period to enable those who missed the initial enrolment to join the school. This new opportunity aims to broaden access to musical education and facilitate the incorporation of new students at the beginning of the academic year.

Instrument lending programme launched

This October, the school will also unveil the regulatory framework for its instrument lending programme, designed to allow students to borrow instruments for the entire academic year. The initiative seeks to alleviate the financial burden of purchasing instruments, making musical practice more accessible for students and their families.

The available instruments for loan include:

  • 2 euphoniums
  • 10 B-flat clarinets
  • 2 E-flat clarinets
  • 1 bassoon
  • 1 bagpipe
  • 3 alto saxophones
  • 4 trombones
  • 2 horns
  • 5 trumpets
  • 1 tuba
  • 3 percussion sets

Those interested in borrowing instruments will need to adhere to the conditions and requirements outlined in the forthcoming regulations, which will detail the application process and criteria for granting loans. With the commencement of classes, the opening of a second registration period, and the upcoming launch of the instrument lending programme, the Lugo Music School embarks on a new chapter aimed at revitalising its activities and expanding musical learning opportunities in Lugo.
