Vigo airport sees passenger increase while others decline

Vigo's Peinador airport was the only airport in Galicia to report an increase in passenger numbers in September, registering a total of 94,188 travellers. This figure represents a growth of 1.33% compared to the same month last year, equating to approximately 1,236 additional passengers.

In contrast, A Coruña airport saw a nearly 6% decline in traffic, while Santiago airport experienced a drop of 7.4%. Abel Caballero, the mayor of Vigo, highlighted the positive trend at Peinador, describing it as a testament to the strong demand for air travel in the city. “Vigo airport once again demonstrates the consistency of its travellers,” he stated, emphasising that it was the only one of the three Galician airports to increase its traffic during September.

Caballero reiterated his call for the Xunta de Galicia and the Pontevedra Provincial Council to each contribute a third of the funding needed to attract new flight routes, a proposal made by the Concello a year ago. He expressed that had an agreement been reached among the three administrations at that time, Vigo could currently enjoy a significantly higher volume of passengers.
