The 2027 budget of the Xunta de Galicia continues to support improvements in educational centres and research initiatives in Vigo, according to Román Rodríguez.

Galicia's 2027 budget prioritises education and research in Vigo

Román Rodríguez, the Galician Minister for Education, Science and Universities, visited the Vicente Risco School in the Vigo neighbourhood of Teis, where he reaffirmed the Xunta's commitment to enhancing educational facilities through the new pedagogical architecture plan. This initiative includes the Vicente Risco School and the Domingo Villar Institute in Navia.

The recently approved budget law by the Consello da Xunta continues to support the University of Vigo, focusing on sustaining research programmes that promote the training and consolidation of research careers. This includes pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, and industrial doctorate programmes, as well as support for Ramón y Cajal and Juan de la Cierva researchers and scientists recognised by the European Research Council.

Additionally, funding will be allocated to five centres of excellence and collaborative research centres within the CIGUS network, alongside the construction of the new Centre for Marine Research (CIM) in the Siemens building of ETEA.

Accompanied by Ana Ortiz, the Xunta's delegate in Vigo, Rodríguez highlighted that the 2027 budget reflects the financial commitment linked to the educational improvement agreement. This agreement will result in the addition of 956 teachers for the 2026/27 academic year, aimed at reconfiguring secondary education schedules and enhancing support for diverse learning needs.

One of the key allocations in the upcoming budget pertains to support for textbooks and school materials, as well as funding for school canteens. This includes necessary funds for canteens managed directly by the Xunta, agreements with local councils, and subsidies for parents' associations managing these services. Moreover, a line of aid for users of non-government-managed canteens was launched earlier this year.

The development of the Galician Framework for Educational Advancement, the own programme for conversation assistants, and the continuation of the EdugalIA project are also notable initiatives planned for 2027.
