The Consell de Mallorca is backing the 24th edition of the Children's and Youth Theatre Fair of the Balearic Islands (FIET), taking place in Vilafranca de Bonany from 21 to 25 October. This year, the event brings together 45 companies showcasing a total of 46 performances.
Llorenç Galmés, president of the Consell de Mallorca, emphasised the importance of supporting cultural initiatives that invigorate local municipalities and bring performing arts closer to the public. He noted that the FIET exemplifies the potential of culture to stimulate activity in the region and establish Mallorca as a cultural reference point.
Antònia Roca, vice president and councillor for Culture and Heritage, reiterated the Consell's commitment to projects that ensure access to culture and promote the development of the artistic sector. She highlighted the value of the FIET as a platform for showcasing Balearic companies and as a space to engage children, young people, and families with theatre.
Organised by Sa Xerxa de Teatre Infantil i Juvenil de les Illes Balears, the FIET receives annual support of €50,000 from the Consell de Mallorca since 2024 to ensure the continuity of this key fair and to promote performing arts aimed at children and youth on the island.
The opening performance featured 'Llévame a casa' by Aboon Teatre, marking the start of five days filled with theatre, dance, circus, puppetry, and other performing arts disciplines for audiences of all ages. This year's programme includes four world premieres, three national premieres, and 23 premieres in the Balearic Islands, with contributions from various regions of Spain and countries such as France, Denmark, and Brazil.
Additionally, around fifteen companies from the Balearic Islands will present their works, making the FIET a meeting point, exhibition space, and catalyst for the performing arts sector. Notable features of this edition include an enhanced programme aimed at youth and early childhood, as well as the inclusion of school and intergenerational performances.
The fair continues its mission to make performing arts an accessible and shared experience, capable of connecting generations and reaching new audiences. The FIET 2026 will conclude on Sunday, 25 October, with a performance by Cucorba, marking their farewell to the audience in Vilafranca during their final stage on stage.
