The José Riquelme Municipal Library is set to host a conference titled ‘The first settlement in the Isthmus of Gibraltar in the early 18th century: an approach to the origins of La Línea de la Concepción’ on Tuesday, 20 October, at 18:30. The event will be presented by José Beneroso, a doctor in History and a graduate in Geography and History from the National University of Distance Education (UNED), as well as holding a master's degree in Archaeology from the ICAC-UNIZAR.
During his talk in the reading room, Beneroso will present new findings and research focused on the birth of the municipality. This cultural event is part of a series of activities organised by the municipal Culture delegation in honour of International Library Day.
The programme, which began on 13 October, includes a bibliographic selection titled ‘The library, protagonist of novels’, showcasing literary works where library spaces and books play a central role in the narrative. This initiative will remain available until 23 October in the narrative and children's sections of the library.
In addition to the local history conference, the programme will feature two thematic mystery exhibitions in celebration of All Saints' Day and Halloween: ‘Readings to keep you awake’, aimed at a youth audience, and ‘Readings to frighten’, located in the children's area. Both bibliographic selections will be available until 30 October.
