The Xunta de Galicia is promoting the international visibility of Galician music by supporting the participation of two acts, A Pedreira and Fillas de Cassandra, at Womex 2026, the most significant global event for folk and roots music, taking place in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria until Sunday.
Jacobo Sutil, director of the Galician Agency for Cultural Industries (Axencia Galega das Industrias Culturais), attended A Pedreira's concert last night as part of an initiative that provides Galician artists and companies a platform to showcase their work to programmers, festivals, booking agencies, and other professionals from various countries.
A Pedreira was selected by an independent international jury to be part of the Official Showcases, which feature a curated selection of concerts that Womex uses to connect professionals with global music proposals.
The Galician representation will continue on Saturday, 24 October, with a performance by Fillas de Cassandra, scheduled for 21:30 (Canary Islands time) at the Atlantic Connections stage in the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium. The duo, consisting of María SOA and Sara Faro, will present their blend of traditional Galician music, electronic sounds, and pop influences.
In addition to the artistic participation, the event also sees the presence of Galician companies and professionals who are using the fair to present their projects, hold business meetings, and establish connections with agents in the international circuit.
It is worth noting that Womex has a strong relationship with Galicia, having hosted three editions of the market: in Santiago de Compostela in 2014 and 2016, and in A Coruña in 2023. These past events have helped strengthen the ties between the Galician music industry and the global music professional network.
