Catalonia's economy projected to grow by 2.6% in 2026 despite energy crisis
The region's GDP remains dynamic due to strong performance in the first half of the year, although private consumption is starting to slow amid rising inflation. Employment growth is expected to continue, albeit at a reduced pace of 2.0%.
The Catalan government has forecasted that the region's economy will grow by 2.6% in 2026, despite the ongoing challenges posed by the energy crisis. This growth is attributed to a robust performance in the first half of the year, which has helped maintain the dynamism of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
However, the government has noted a moderation in private consumption as inflation rates continue to rise. This shift may impact consumer spending habits, which have traditionally been a significant driver of economic growth in the region.
In terms of employment, Catalonia is expected to continue generating jobs, although at a slower rate than in previous years, with an anticipated growth rate of 2.0%. This reflects a broader trend of cautious optimism in the region's labour market.
