Borja Sémper calls for accountability following Urda train accident

In a recent interview on Onda Cero's Más de Uno, Borja Sémper, the deputy secretary of culture and sport and national spokesperson for the People's Party (PP), addressed the aftermath of the train accident in Urda. He stated, “Spaniards do not ask for miracles; they simply want Spain to function again.”

Sémper emphasised the need for respect for the victims and truth for their families, declaring, “This is unacceptable.” He pointed out that the situation transcends individual political figures, highlighting a broader responsibility for those in power who have fostered a toxic political environment.

He remarked on the current government led by Pedro Sánchez, stating, “They are experts in externalising responsibility, and this ultimately has consequences.” Sémper expressed concern over the erosion of public trust in institutions and services, noting, “We are witnessing the disintegration of the state and the credibility of citizens in their institutions.”

He called for a thorough investigation into the incident, insisting that there should be no further obfuscation and that the ongoing toxic political climate must end. “We deserve something brighter,” he added.

Sémper also pointed out the series of inexplicable issues related to railway transport that have persisted for years, stating that political accountability has long been overdue. “We want trains to arrive on time and at their destinations. When this does not happen, there are responsible parties, and they have been around for a long time,” he asserted.

He concluded by noting that many things previously considered solid are not, attributing this to failures in governance rather than divine intervention.
