Alicante holds draw for electoral tables ahead of general elections

The Ayuntamiento de Alicante has conducted an extraordinary plenary session to form the electoral tables for the upcoming general elections to the Congress of Deputies and the Senate, scheduled for Sunday, 29 November. The session, presided over by Mayor Luis Barcala, involved a draw to select the presidents and official members for the 422 polling stations.

A total of 261,484 individuals are eligible to vote in these elections, with 244,808 registered as residents in Spain and 16,676 as residents abroad. During the draw, 1,266 primary officials and 2,532 substitutes were chosen to manage the polling stations.

The draw was conducted using a lottery machine featuring the ten digits from zero to nine, with the selected number being 886. This number will be used by the relevant software application to identify members for the 422 electoral tables based on the municipal electoral register.

According to electoral law, the president and official members of each table are chosen through a public draw from eligible voters who can read and write and are under 70 years old. Those aged 65 or older may decline their appointment within seven days. To qualify as a table president, one must possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent vocational training.

In the coming days, the Ayuntamiento will notify those selected for the electoral tables about their roles, along with a manual detailing their responsibilities. Participation is mandatory for both primary and substitute members, although certain exceptional circumstances may allow for justification of absence.
