Galicia's Director of Tourism, Xosé Merelles, inaugurated the exhibition ‘Railway History of the Former CTL Greenway Route’ today at the Área Central shopping centre, where it will be open to visitors until 2 November. Organised by the Association of Municipalities of the CTL Greenway, the exhibition aims to highlight the history of the old railway line and its significance for communication and territorial development.
Merelles emphasised the importance of initiatives like this to “recover and enhance railway heritage as a tourist, cultural, and leisure resource, while also invigorating inland areas.” He noted that the Compostela-Tambre-Lengüelle Greenway, which stretches approximately 26 kilometres through the municipalities of Santiago, Oroso, Ordes, Tordoia, and Cerceda, “is an example of sustainable tourism that combines nature, heritage, and physical activity,” creating “new opportunities for rural development.”
In 2025, nature tourism attracted 477,000 visitors to Galicia, generating over 3.3 million overnight stays. The total expenditure associated with this type of tourism reached €222.6 million, with an average daily spend of €67 per person.
