the ridiculous precious ones comes to tomelloso

Arroz con Costra Producciones and director Marcos Altuve are set to present the play 'the ridiculous precious ones' at the Marcelo Grande theatre in Tomelloso. The production reimagines Molière's classic comedy, exploring themes of vanity and superficiality in a modern context.

The narrative follows Magdelón and Cathos, two young women who arrive in Paris in search of love and sophistication. Their obsession with fashion, appearance, and affected language leads them to behave in a ridiculous and superficial manner, earning them the title of 'the precious ones'. Their uncle, Gorgibus, attempts to find suitable husbands for them, while suitors La Grange and Du Croisy soon discover the emptiness of their characters.

In a bid to rid themselves of the young women, the servants devise a plan where Mascarilla pretends to be an aristocrat named the 'Marqués de Mascarilla', a character designed to impress the young women with his false elegance and flowery language. This sets the stage for a rivalry filled with comedic twists.

Through this adaptation, Molière critiques the pretentiousness, vanity, and obsessive pursuit of social status that were prevalent in his time, and which resonate with contemporary society. Altuve's direction brings the story into the digital age, highlighting the role of social media and the superficiality that often accompanies it, while also emphasising the central role of women in today's society.

The cast includes Allende García, Estefanía Botlla, Adrián Rico, Gabriela Torres, Roberto Rodríguez, Paco Peraile, and Jaime Contreras.
