The island of La Palma is embracing its role in the cinematic universe of 'children of blood and bone', known in Spain as 'hijos de sangre y hueso'. This highly anticipated film, produced by Paramount Pictures, has begun to generate excitement with the release of its official trailer and promotional materials.

Key filming locations on the island include the lush Bosque de Los Tilos, the scenic Llano del Jable, and the picturesque Nogales. These diverse landscapes showcase La Palma's unique combination of laurisilva (laurel forest), coastal views, and volcanic terrain, all within close proximity.

The La Palma Film Commission, managed by Sodepal and supported by the regional Tourism Department, played a vital role in facilitating the production's presence on the island. The film, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and based on the novel by Tomi Adeyemi, follows a young protagonist on a quest to reclaim the magic lost to her people. It is set to premiere in cinemas on 15 January 2027.

The cast features notable actors including Thuso Mbedu, Damson Idris, Amandla Stenberg, and Tosin Cole, alongside acclaimed performers such as Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Regina King, Idris Elba, and Viola Davis, who is part of the exclusive EGOT club, having won Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards.

Sergio Rodríguez, president of the Cabildo de La Palma, expressed pride in the island's selection as a filming location, stating, "The fact that a production of this scale has chosen La Palma to help create its visual universe highlights the island's audiovisual potential. It's not just about showcasing our landscapes on the big screen; it's also about generating activity, experience, and new opportunities for local professionals and businesses."

Production services in Spain were provided by Buttercup Films, with Manel Gaspar serving as Location Manager, who previously worked on the film 'The Midnight Sky' directed by George Clooney. Local professionals and companies, such as David Bienes Paz from Enróllate Films, contributed to the scouting and preparation of filming locations, further enhancing the island's reputation in the international audiovisual sector.

Miriam Perestelo, the councillor for Economic Promotion and CEO of Sodepal, noted, "Every major production offers our sector a chance to gain experience and build professional relationships. The involvement of La Palma's companies and professionals strengthens our ability to meet increasingly demanding productions and increases job opportunities in the local audiovisual industry."

Raquel Rebollo, the Tourism Councillor for the Cabildo de La Palma, highlighted the importance of cinema in showcasing the island's landscapes to a wider audience, stating, "Films allow us to present our scenery to those who may not yet know La Palma, integrating it into stories with significant outreach. The inclusion of diverse locations like Los Tilos, Llano del Jable, and Nogales in an international production reinforces the island's image and its ability to inspire."

With the film's release set for 15 January 2027 and additional promotional content expected in the coming months, La Palma is once again linked to a major international production, reinforcing its position as a filming destination and highlighting both its stunning locations and the expertise of local professionals in the audiovisual sector.
