Xunta de Galicia promotes coastal path as accessible and connected experience

The Xunta de Galicia is enhancing the visibility and accessibility of the Coastal Path, making it more connected to both travellers and the coastal municipalities along the route. This initiative was announced by Ángeles Vázquez, the regional Minister for Environment and Climate Change, during a presentation attended by Xosé Merelles, the Director of Tourism for Galicia, and Pablo Fernández, the Xunta's delegate in Pontevedra.

The promotional campaign targets the 78 municipalities that comprise the 52-stage, 1,373-kilometre coastal route. Each locality will receive promotional posters with QR codes linking directly to the Coastal Path mobile application, as well as materials for visitor information desks in tourist offices. Additional resources for pilgrims and walkers include logbooks for recording their journey, along with pencils and keychains.

Vázquez emphasised that these items are designed to ensure that the experience of the Coastal Path remains memorable long after reaching the final stage. The campaign also includes improvements to the mobile application, which will incorporate information from the Galician Tourism Agency to enhance details about available tourist resources at each stage.

The regional minister highlighted the intention of the Galician government to leverage technology as a useful tool for walkers, facilitating better planning of stages and discovery of the diverse offerings along the route. Xosé Merelles pointed out the tourism potential of the Coastal Path, aligning it with the objectives of the Galicia Tourism Strategy 2030, which aims to distribute tourism across more than 1,300 kilometres of coastline and 78 municipalities.

Merelles noted that this initiative promotes coastal and nature tourism, which has been a focus for the Xunta for several years, including efforts to adapt infrastructure in coastal establishments and improve marinas. He underscored the collaborative nature of the promotional campaign, involving various departments to ensure the sustainable accessibility and protection of the coastline for both residents and visitors.

Vázquez reiterated that the Coastal Path is a shared heritage of the 78 municipalities it traverses, the local residents, pilgrims, walkers, and the visitors who choose Galicia to explore its coast. She affirmed the ongoing commitment to work with municipalities and the tourism sector to make this experience accessible, sustainable, and well-known.
